It’s easy to think that you might have to put your funkiest clothing away now that the colder weather is here. But you don’t have to change your look – really! OK, OK. So vest tops and your fave denim shorts are off the menu. But your festival fringe, tie-dye and vintage finds are so right for Autumn. Here’s how to make them work.

Boho Ladies

Ladies, go boho for autumn and winter with layers, length and vintage appeal

The big fashion houses are going boho for Autumn – and your hippy wardrobe is halfway there. Now, nobody said you should blend in with the crowd. But the beauty of boho is the mix – your old favourites and some vintage finds, teamed with new winter boots or a piece of gemstone jewellery that you just had to have. Gorgeous!

Autumn fashion always takes us back to nature. Think leather, precious metals, faux fur and floral prints in earthy tones. Try greens, browns and jewel colours – deep red, purple and burnt orange. Tie-dye still works well, especially in more muted hues. These stretchy tie dye hippy dresses are just right, and they can be worn over long-sleeved t-shirts and warm tights.

Our perfect ladies’ tops for autumn and winter? Beautifully embellished pixie bust cotton hippy tops – the colours and textures are just right. Wear over jeans and knee-high boots for a night out – or in – with friends.

Layering is practical and pretty. Maxi dress over leggings, anyone? Or channel Stevie Nicks with a flowing maxi skirt over knee-high boots. Wrist warmers look great over your favourite long-sleeved jumper or top. And that staple of hippy clothing, the scarf, works brilliantly thrown over your shoulders for warmth. Our pashminas – like this paisley pattered one – are the perfect autumn accessory. It’s like a blanket you can wear – cosy and just a little bit trendy. Plus, paisley is so boho!

Boho Gents

Gents – mix denim with tribal prints and cosy knits for a hipster update

If the ladies are going boho for autumn, it’s time for gents to rock the hipster look. Combine denim, leather and patterns, like plaid and tribal prints, to fast-track you to hipster hero. You can’t go wrong with one of our Mexican jerga hoodies over jeans, teamed with sturdy boots. If you wouldn’t look out of place on a ranch or backpacking around Indonesia, you’ve nailed it. It goes without saying that your hair needs to be expertly quaffed – and highly groomed facial hair is a must. An enviable beard will keep you that much warmer in the winter, too.

You probably know how much we love our cotton waistcoats already. But these beauties are even more perfect for autumn and winter than they were for summer. Wear them over your favourite shirt for an instant hipster update. Collarless grandad shirts are smart and unique.

As the temperature drops, you’ll need a decent jacket to keep you warm. We love them all – especially Gringo cotton jackets with a fleecy lining and these striking and stylish long Jedi coats.

We hope this shows that with just a handful of simple tweaks, a few key pieces of hippy clothing will see you through the season in style. Don’t forget to show us what you come up with – you could end up in our Customer Photo Gallery. Happy styling.
