Hippy Clothing UK Music Recommendations week 1

Music has always been a massive part of my life.  Since when I went to my first festival many years ago my musical tastes have grown and grown.  I love a diverse choice in music from Psychedelic trance to rock and roll, from the Beatles to Bach, the 60’s and 70’s played a major roll in the years where I started to find myself as a person, music is and always will be one of the things I enjoy on a day to day basis.

In my opinion the clothing I live in and the music I listen to are closely related.  The reason is simple, the clothes I wear are an expression of of who I am as a person much like the music I listen helps me express myself.

Each week I will be posting music that has influenced me.  I will always try and show a varied choice in music so everybody might be able to find something they have either never heard or already love and had forgotten about. Just remember these music choices are the kind of thing I listen to that I think might be of an interest.

Psychedelic Trance
Infected Mushroom, Bust a Move, from their Classical Mushroom Album
This is old skool Psy Trance that reminds me of free partys in the woods.  Their newer music has changed but I have always loved the old psy trance.
Infected Mushroom is an Israeli musician duo formed in Haifa in 1996 by producers Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani. They produce and perform psytrance, electronica, and Psychedelic music.

Psychedelic Folk

The Incredible String Band, Koeeoaddi There, from the Album The Hangman’s Beautiful Daughter
The Incredible String Band were a psychedelic folk band formed in Scotland in 1966. The band built a considerable following, especially within the British counterculture, before splitting up in 1974. The group’s members are musical pioneers in psychedelic folk and, by integrating a wide variety of traditional music forms and instruments, in the development of world music.
These guys are not going to be everyone’s cuppa tea but I have to say the music is quite interesting and the lyrics to there songs are as suggested very psychedelic.

John Lee Hooker, Boom Boom, taken from the Blues Brothers Movie Sound Track
John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1912 – June 21, 2001) was an American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was born in Tutwiler, Mississippi, the son of a sharecropper, and rose to prominence performing an electric guitar-style adaptation of Delta blues.

Jon Hopkins, Open Eye Signal from the Immunity Album
Jon Hopkins is a English music producer who has been around since the early 90’s but until recently escaped my notice.  His use of samples and funky beats keeps you entertained.

Iron Butterfly, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida from the Album of the same name.

Iron Butterfly is an American psychedelic rock band best known for the 1968 hit “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”, providing a dramatic sound that led the way towards the development of hard rock and heavy metal music. Formed in San Diego, California.
This is a great song well worth the listen, I have included the full 17 minute version but this can be viewed in the single version.

Fuzzy Duck, this is the full self titled Album from 1971, we love these guys, real sounds of the 60’s/70’s.
Fuzzy Duck was an English progressive rock group from London, formed in 1970. Their self-titled studio album Fuzzy Duck was released in 1971. It featured Mick Hawksworth of Five Day Week Straw Prople, Killing Floor and Andromeda, as well as Crazy World of Arthur Brown keyboardist Roy Sharland and drummer Paul Francis of Tucky Buzzard (and later of Tranquility)

Lo Fi Lullaby
Entertainment for the Braindead, Run from her Hydrophobia Album
This German singer song writer has a beautiful voice and great song writing skills. She plays most of the instruments used and overlays them to create her wonderful music. She has been in my music collection for quite some time now and free pieces of her music can be downloaded by clicking here.

Claude Debussy, Clair De Lune
Claude-Achille Debussy (22 August 1862 – 25 March 1918) was a French composer.
The Suite bergamasque (from which ‘Clair De Lune’ is taken) is one of the most famous piano suites by Claude Debussy. It was first composed by Debussy around 1890, at the age of 28, but was significantly revised just before its publication in 1905.
One of the most beautiful pieces of classical piano music ever written, this piece of music is used in films and TV but in my opinion needs to be heard more.

Tool, the full Lateralus Album from 2001.
Tool is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1990, the group’s line-up includes drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, and vocalist Maynard James Keenan. Since 1995, Justin Chancellor has been the band’s bassist, replacing their original bassist Paul D’Amour. Tool has won three Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.
This is one band that I can just listen to again and again all day.  The drummer uses techniques to produce some of the best drumming I’ve ever heard.  I’ve seen these guys live a few times and although the singers voice is getting a little dodgy now they were always amazing to see.
