The Raconteurs, Broken Boy Solider, from their debut album, Broken Boy Soldiers 2006
The Raconteurs are an American rock group that was formed in Detroit, Michigan, featuring four musicians associated with earlier musical projects: Jack White (formerly of The White Stripes, currently The Dead Weather, as well as solo), Brendan Benson (solo), Jack Lawrence (of The Greenhornes, Blanche and The Dead Weather), and Patrick Keeler (also of The Greenhornes).
It’s safe to say I’m a Jack White fan, the guys solo stuff is somewhat strange but very clever, I’m not saying everything he touches is gold but he does have a way with music.
His voice is superb and lends will to this song.
Simon and Garfunkel, The Boxer, from Bridge over Trouble Water, 1970
Probably one of the best known folk groups of the 60’s and 70’s.
The harmony these guys could produce together were beautiful. The song writing was magical and the music complemented the voices.
Simon & Garfunkel were an American folk rock duo consisting of singer-songwriters Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
They were one of the most popular recording artists of the 1960s and became counterculture icons of the decade’s social revolution
Radio Moscow, Radio Moscow 2007
Radio Moscow is an American psychedelic rock band from Story City, Iowa. Formed in 2003,
the band currently features singer-guitarist Parker Griggs, bassist Anthony Meier and drummer Paul Marrone.

Well what can I say, if you a looking for a bit of funky rock then these guys are for you. Great base lines, funky blues riffs.
This album was produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys so if you’re a Black Keys fan then you’ll probably like this.
Jazz – Hip Hop – Funk
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, War, from Hypnotic Brass Ensemble 2009
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (also known as The Bad Boys of Jazz) is an eight-piece, Chicago-based brass ensemble consisting of eight sons of the jazz trumpeter Phil Cohran.
Their musical style ranges from hip-hop to jazz to funk and rock, including calypso and gypsie music.
They call their eclectic blend of sound “now music”, or “Hypnotic”.
These guys really funk up brass instruments. I saw these guys on the Jools Holland show back a few years ago and purchased the album straight away.
Not much to say other than have a listen.
Otis Redding, Mr Pitiful, from the album The Great Otis Redding Sings Soul Ballads, 1965
This song was written by Otis reading and Steve Cropper (you might remember him from the original Blues Brothers movie).
Otis reading was an absolute genius and produced some great music many of which are well known.
Otis was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, arranger, and talent scout.
He is considered one of the greatest singers in the history of American popular music and a seminal artist in soul music and rhythm and blues.
His singing style influenced many other soul artists of the 1960s.
Martha and the Vandellas, Nowhere to run, From the album Dance Party, 1965
This song is probably familiar to anyone who has watched Good Morning Vietnam, a film with an epic sound track.
A great pop song from the 60’s that deserves to be played loud.
Martha and the Vandellas (known from 1967 to 1972 as Martha Reeves and the Vandellas) were an American vocal group who found fame in the 1960s with a string of hit singles on Motown’s Gordy label.
Drum and Bass

Pendulum is an Australian drum and bass and electronic rock band founded in 2002.Pendulum originally formed in the Australian city of Perth, Western Australia.
After forming Pendulum with Paul Harding, the band relocated to the United Kingdom in 2003.
The debut studio album, Hold Your Colour, was released in 2005 to positive critical reception.
While Hold Your Colour was mostly of the drum and bass genre, the succeeding albums In Silico and Immersion saw experimentation of other genres such as industrial rock and electronic rock.
Portishead, Live in Roseland NYC
Portishead are an English band formed in 1991 in Bristol. They are named after the nearby town of the same name, eight miles west of Bristol.
Portishead consists of Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley, while sometimes citing a fourth member, Dave McDonald, an engineer on their first records.
Their music is best described as trip hop, electronic and experimental rock.
Although I struggle to listen to their studio albums, they manage to bring something really special to the table with this live album.
The energy and atmosphere that is created with the live orchestra is just out of this world. Buy this album and you will not regret it.
Biffy Clyro, Bodies in Flight, from the album The Vertigo of Bliss 2003
These Scottish rockers have been around since the late 90’s and produced their fist album in 2002.
They became a well know name when their 5th studio album (Only Revolutions) came out in 2009.
If you haven’t heard their older stuff then please do as it is fantastic.
One of the best live acts I have seen in a long time, such stage presents and energy.
Please note all music videos posted are show as recommendations of great music that I have grown up with and think other people will appreciate, please show your support for these bands by purchasing their music, music can only ever grow if we show our support.
