Whether you’re a lifelong hippy who’s spent your life touring with The Grateful Dead, or you’re a convert to the boho lifestyle (young or old), it is never a bad idea to add a few updates and additions to your wardrobe during the busy festival season. Any season really, well all of them! I mean let’s face it, since when did a woman need an excuse to shop!! 🙂
Here are just some of the must-haves every hippy chick should include in their wardrobe in 2016:
Maxi Skirts & Dresses
The perfect festival wear, nothing is as conducive to the type of free and easy living we hippy types love as maxi skirt and dresses. Long, free-flowing and liberating, the maxi skirt and the maxi dress has been a staple of hippy clothing since the beginning of the ‘60s counter-cultural revolution, and no self-respecting hippy chick would be happy without at least one maxi skirt in her wardrobe. Traditionally maxi skirts and dresses started of being handmade in bright and bold colours often with flowers and various symbols sewn onto them. This still happens now but these days you can buy such a huge range or styles and colours.
Hippy Handbags & Backpacks
Whether you’re hiking through the beautiful countryside of the Lake District or chilling out at a festival, you should never be without a colourful hippy bag. Of course, this not only shows off your style, but also holds your most important supplies. There are so many different types to choose from this season – small shoulder bags, totes, satchels, backpacks, passport bags and your standard traditional handbag. All of which are available in many different colours with various patterns and embroidery works.
Hats, Headbands & Hair Forks
Why have a bare head when you can adorn it with all manner of freaky, pretty and practical headwear? From warming fair trade woolens, to cooling patchwork summer hats, there’s no end to the headwear choices available to express yourself with as a hippy-boho type. If a hat is not quite your style then why not go for a nice colourful head/hair bands to keep the sun from your head and the hair from your face. Don’t like having things covering your head then you can still spruce up your look with a nice stylish and elegant hair fork.
Scarves and sunglasses
If you already have all of the basics of hippy clothing in your wardrobe, why not update your look simply by purchasing a few colorful scarves and a trademark pair of boho-chic oversized glasses? The great thing about scarves (depending on the style that you choose) is that they can be used for many different things – you could take a leaf out of Audrey Hepburn’s book and wear the scarf on your head, you could use the scarf as a blanket or you could go way out there and wear the scarf as get this… a scarf.
One of the many great things about being a hippy in this era is that we are spoilt for choice, which means that we can express ourselves in so many different ways with so many different items of clothing and accessories.
