Longleat – The Festival of Lights

Longleat - The festival of LightSo, guess what? Ok I will tell you – the festival of lights is back at Longleat this year. Woohoo!

As well as the Festival of Lights, Longleat is also celebrating its 50th birthday which means that this year is going to be bigger and better than the last and is said to be unmissable!!

Lights – During the Festival of Light, the park is transformed for winter into a wonderful  bright, colourful and glowing wonderland. They had me at bright and colourful – just what this hippy likes 🙂
In a celebration of all creatures great and tiny they will be hosting Europe’s largest Chinese Lantern Festival. They have not said how many lanterns it will be but I am sure it will be a wondrous surprise and look pretty spectacular. What they have said though and if you look on their website, there are some amazing lantern creatures helping you find your way around the park..
They are also enlisting the help of some of our favourite Beatrix Potter characters to help them transform and light up the park. Fingers crossed Squirrel Nutkin will be there 😉 Who is your favourite? Watch out though as I have heard that Mr McGregor is on the look out!
The lights all turn on at 4pm which I am sure will be stunning. You will be able to find not only your favourite Beatrix Potter character in lantern form but also your favourite animal at Longleat.
You will be greeting by 8 huge lions to commemorate the very first residents of Longleat in 1966.

As well as the lights, which to be honest was enough for me to want tickets, there are so many other things going on during the festival.

The Santa Express – hop aboard the Santa Express to be taken on a magical journey through the grounds  to North Pole Halt  – a snow covered winter wonderland where Santa will be waiting for you in his Grotto.

Arctic Corner – wohoo it’s adventure time! This area will be a wonderful treat showcasing lanterns that will not be seen anywhere else in the park. As well as the lanterns, there will some magical arctic themed inflatable’s. With elves waiting on hand to make it a memorable and exciting experience to all to a snow globe that you can step into, the Arctic Corner promised fun for all ages.

Giant Christmas Tree – yay, we love Christmas Trees here at Mystical mayhem so we are really excited to see Longleat’s giant xmas tree. This years tree is a whopping 50ft tree which will be using state of the art, up to date technology to put on a spectacular show and dazzle everyone. The tree is lit at around 4pm each day – light permitting.

Longleat House – now, this will be a wonder to see. Step through the doors of Longleat house and you will be whisked away and transported through time to an Edwardian Christmas. Each room will be decorated as it would have been back in Edwardian times. Also, to celebrate 150 years of Beatrix Potter, the house will be putting on an exhibition which will be showcasing some of the wonderful costumes used in the ballet “Tales of Beatrix Potter”. I totally adore Beatrix Potter and so will be taking a gander at this for sure!

Safari – there is of course also the drive through safari with so many animals to see. You can see lions, giraffes, wallabies, Rhino’s, pesky little monkey’s and even little butterflies. There is something in the safari that everyone will love. You can see beautiful animals relaxing in their homes.
