This Week in Hippy History: 31st October to 6th November

Week 4

Hippy HistoryHello there, welcome to week 4 of Mystical Mayhem Clothing’s This week in Hippy history.
We have looked high and low to find some fun and interesting hippy facts for you this week so please, read on and see what we have found for you…………..

31st October 1517 – Michelangelo finishes painting The Last Judgement on the Sistine chapel. The artwork also known as The Final Judgement is a work done on the Alter wall of the Sistine Chapel by the master of renaissance Michelangelo. The work took 4 years to complete done between 1536 and 1541. This work came 25 years after Michelangelo had already finished his masterpiece on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.  This is something that everyone should see and is on our bucket list. Religious or not, the Sistine Chapel is a beautiful masterpiece that everyone should be able to appreciate. Hippy’s are said to love art so this one is for you hippies.

31st October 1961 – Peter Jackson Born. This man is a movie genius. I have watched many of the movies that he has directed and have loved them all. The multi talented director, writer and producer was born and still lives in NZ ( a wonderful place to visit. Everyone should go!) Jackson is well known for being the writer, producer and director of the wonderful Lord of The Rings Trilogy and the Hobbit Trilogy. What a fantastic set of movies that they all are. One of my favourites that he did was an old trashy horror called braindead – love it! The man in the don!

1st November 1611  – Shakespeare’s “Tempest” first presented.  The Tempest is a romantic comedy written by William Shakespeare the playwright genius! This wonderful play is one of my favourites and is believed to have been written in 1610-11 although we are not sure for certain. Also, it is believed to have been the last play that he wrote alone. The play was first published in 1623. Now. I could tell you the plot and spoil it for you or, you can go and read it. Yes, please read it!

1st November 1968– Beatles Abbey Road goes to #1 in US and stays there for 11 weeks.  Now I know that we have made reference to this album before for different reasons. The fact that it keeps cropping up shows just how amazing the album. With songs like the Octopus’ Garden, this really is an album for us hippy’s 🙂 The Beatles were known for their great hippy style and were avid wearers of hippy clothing.

2nd November – unfortunately we can find nothing of hippy interest that happened on this day :-(so, I have decided to make something up – this is the day that the bees finally worked out how to fish for squirrel on the moon.

3rd November 1971  – Dylan Moran Born. Dylan is an Irish comedian/funny man. With a dark and brilliant sense of humour he should be around more. You may know him from his own stand up shows which are hilarious or from the famous “Black Books” where he starred alongside Bill Bailey. Definitely worth a look in.

4th November – well, can you believe that there is no hippyness on this date 🙁  – oh no, bad news for bees on this day as it would seem that the moon squirrels have worked out how to fish back and have declared it national bee fishing season….

5th November 1605 – Guys Fawkes day originated and soon became fireworks night. Guy Fawkes was a member of the Gunpowder Plot which housed explosives under the house of commons. They were caught and executed.  Although Guy Fawkes was a criminal and was trying to blow up the king, thankfully he was caught which lead to a celebration that is loved by all. Fireworks night!!

5th October 1941 – Art Garfunkel born.  Most famously known as musical partner Paul Simon. Together they were known as Simon and Garfunkel and had a very successful career together.. Art has also released his own music which has done very well and is loved by many. Simon and Garfunkel will be listened to forever they are that good! Perfect hippy listening.

6th October 1572 – Supernova is observed in constellation known as Cassiopeia. A supernova is basically what happens at the end of a stars life. It is a huge astronomical event that occurs at the end of a massive stars being. The stars catastrophic and dramatic destruction  is marked by one monster of an explosion. This whole series of events is called a supernova. This is me giving you the short version as there is an awful lot more to it and we would be here for many many pages. Go look it up.. Wouldn’t it be amazing to see something like this?!

So, there you have it, week 4 of our hippy news article. We hope you enjoyed reading it and found out some new and interesting information. You may have seen read some random facts that you thought weren’t very hippy – they are there on purpose just because I thought that they were interesting 🙂
Lots of fun things happening this week what with Halloween and Fireworks night. However you are celebrating just remember to stay safe, take care of yourselves and other around you.
